Fishing and more: Why the diaspora can help
With artisanal fishing still dominating the fishing industry in Cameroon, the diaspora can provide valuable resources and tools to help fishermen realize their potential and become more productive and profitable. Expected economic growth trends and increased domestic business activity should offer solid incentives for members of the diaspora to invest in the fishing industry.
While foreign-led micro-finance institutions continue to provide small lines of credit to fishermen in Cameroon, members of the diaspora can also concretely participate in such programs, and CAMAM offers a perfect platform for identifying and selecting partners on the ground which can facilitate increased business cooperation between the diaspora and local fishermen in Cameroon.
